Privacy Policy for Aether

Last updated: August 31st 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Aether ("the App," "we," "us") handles information when you use the App.

The short version

Aether does not collect, store, receive, or have access to your journal content, thoughts, questions, memories, or quotes. Everything you write is stored exclusively in your own iCloud account, protected by your own Apple ID. We do not operate any servers that receive or process your entries, and no third party has access to your data through Aether.

What data Aether does not collect

Aether does not collect or have access to:

  • Journal entries, thoughts, questions, memories, or quotes you write in the App
  • Your name, email address, or other contact information
  • Analytics or usage tracking data
  • Your location
  • Advertising identifiers
  • Any data for the purpose of tracking you across apps or websites owned by other companies

We have no servers, databases, or backend infrastructure that store or transmit your content. There is nothing on our end to be breached, sold, or shared, because nothing you write ever reaches us.

How your data is stored

All content you create in Aether — journal entries, items dropped into the Aether space, questions, released entries, memories, and quotes — is saved directly to your personal iCloud account using Apple's iCloud storage services (e.g., CloudKit). This means:

  • Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest according to Apple's iCloud security standards.
  • Your data syncs across your own devices signed into the same Apple ID, but is not accessible to us, to Aether's developer, or to any other user.
  • Deleting the App or signing out of iCloud may affect access to your data according to Apple's standard iCloud behavior, which is governed by Apple's own privacy policy, not this one.

Because storage is entirely managed through your iCloud account, Apple's own Privacy Policy and iCloud terms govern how iCloud itself handles and secures that data.

Data export

The App allows you to export your own data as a PDF or JSON file directly from your device, for your personal backup or use. This export happens locally on your device and is not transmitted to us.

Third parties

We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose your content to any third party, because we never receive it in the first place. Aether does not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.

Children's privacy

Aether is not directed at children under 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children, consistent with the fact that we do not collect personal information from any user.

Your rights and choices

Because Aether does not collect or retain your data on any server we control, there is no account, profile, or copy of your content for us to provide, correct, or delete on your behalf. You control your data directly:

  • To delete an entry, delete it within the App.
  • To delete all your data, delete the App and remove its data from iCloud (via Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage on your device), or delete individual entries first via the App's own delete controls.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect new features. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
